In recent years, there has been a growing environmental movement around the world as we seek to avoid a climate catastrophe. One of the main questions in this arena is how to create renewable energy in the most efficient and cost effective way. For many in the Smart Energy industry, Smart, or Internet of Things devices could be the answer.
Jacob works for a Smart Energy provider and is responsible for the implementation of a fleet of IoT devices. The initial installation has proved difficult enough, but maintaining a fleet of such devices, after they have been installed, is the real challenge. Many of Jacob's Smart IoT devices have been placed in remote locations, making physical access very complicated. Unfortunately, one gateway device, placed on top of an energy pole, has stopped working correctly. The procedure required to physically locate the defected device, access it, find the bug and deploy a fix could potentially be hugely inconvenient – not to mention the challenge of deploying that solution across the whole fleet of devices to prevent further problems.
Thankfully, Jacob uses the Upswift IoT management platform, giving him a ready- made solution for this situation. Upswift is a cloud platform that has multiple tools for continuous management of smart/IoT devices in general and in the Smart Energy domain specifically. Using the given tools, Jacob receives live alerts on software errors, can connect remotely to debug them, and is able to deploy over-the-air (OTA) software updates on the entire fleet of devices.
